RackWare Disaster Recovery to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in Six Easy Steps

A step-by-step demonstration of protecting workloads that are actively running across both Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and an on-premise data center using RackWare. The demo protects source hosts in the OCI US East region in an active-active configuration synced to the US West region, along with an on-premise VMware host synced to storage and compute that is deployed only during a disaster event or DR drill.


The six steps covered:

  1. Uploading the list of servers to protect by dragging and dropping them into RackWare waves, then auditing and editing each host, including whether it syncs to compute resources or to storage only.

  2. Adding your cloud user credentials with the necessary access to the target OCI compartment.

  3. Configuring the replication wave, including the parallel sync count and the auto-provision option with your OCI region and compartment network information.

  4. Pressing play to start the sync, where RackWare gathers metadata from each source host, automatically provisions matching target instances in the disaster recovery compartment, and creates exact clones of the source hosts.

  5. Creating and applying a disaster recovery policy, with scheduled, frequency-based, or continuous sync options, hours to exclude, future start times, and failure-only email notifications.

  6. Starting the policy so the replication wave becomes a disaster recovery wave, with efficient delta synchronization keeping both the active DR hosts and the storage-synced hosts up to date.


The demo closes by showing manual failover and DR test and drill options, including automatic failover triggers and live or drill mode, where storage-synced hosts automatically deploy and sync compute resources into the DR compartment.
